Online Therapy in New Brunswick
When you think of virtual therapy, you might picture a faceless app or a random therapist from somewhere across the country.
We're not that.
At Laura Gatien & Associates, all of our therapists are real, qualified professionals based right here in New Brunswick — and every single one offers online counselling. Whether you're in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, or a rural community with no local options, we're here to bring private, personalized care directly to you.
Virtual, but real.
Online Therapy That Feels Human — Because It Is
This isn’t a chatroom. It’s not AI. It’s not an algorithm pairing you with a random name.
This is real therapy with real people — licensed New Brunswick therapists who listen, understand, and are uniquely matched to your needs.
When you book virtual therapy with us, you’re getting:
A real, local therapist — not a corporate provider network
Personalized onboarding with a human touch
Continuity of care — no switching therapists mid-journey
Access to local resources when you need them
A trauma-informed, relationship-focused approach to therapy
Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, stress, trauma or just feeling stuck, we can help. And we can start this week.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING
Individual counselling is a personal opportunity to receive support and experience growth. We work with clients one-on-one in a safe, caring, and confidential environment to help support issues including anger, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, marriage and relationship challenges, parenting problems, school difficulties, career changes and more.
COUPLES THERAPY
If you’re having difficulties in an intimate relationship and efforts to resolve them with your partner aren’t working, couples counselling is an option worth considering. Couples or marriage counselling can help to break down barriers, improve communication, and rebuild the connection that brought you together in the first place.
EMDR THERAPY
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a technique proven to effectively treat troubling symptoms stemming from trauma, such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, sleep disturbances and panic attacks. During EMDR therapy sessions, you relive traumatic or triggering experiences in brief doses while the therapist directs your eye movements.
PLAY THERAPY
Play therapy helps children to express feelings through play. This method offers children a safe and natural way to process challenging emotions or memories, even when they may not have the words to describe them. Within a relaxed, comfortable playroom environment, our therapists observe and guide children as they work through emotions in a self-directed, healing way.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a proven, evidence-based approach to mental health care that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression or other challenges, CBT can help you gain the tools and insights needed to create lasting, positive change in your life.
FIRST RESPONDERS AND ESSENTIAL WORKERS
First responders and front-line workers face tremendous challenges on the job, often resulting in mental health issues. We have a passion for improving the mental health of first responders and removing the barriers and stigma that go along with seeking mental health support. We offer in-person and online therapy for first responders and military personnel.
GENDER AFFIRMING CARE
A holistic, client-centred approach that respects and celebrates your identity. Whether you’re questioning your gender, navigating transition or seeking a safe space to talk, our services are designed to meet you where you are. We offer support for individuals across the gender spectrum, including transgender, nonbinary, genderqueer and gender nonconforming individuals.
SEX THERAPY
Our sex therapy services are designed to help individuals and couples address various challenges related to sexuality, intimacy, and relationships. Whether you’re experiencing issues with desire, communication, sexual function or navigating life changes affecting your intimate life, our compassionate, non-judgmental therapists provide a safe space to explore these topics openly.
CHILDREN & TEEN THERAPY
Life can be challenging at any age, but childhood and adolescence bring unique hurdles. At Laura Gatien & Associates, we provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy tailored to the needs of children and teens. We strive to create a safe space where young individuals can explore their feelings, build resilience and thrive.
ACCELERATED RESOLUTION THERAPY
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a structured, evidence-based breakthrough treatment that helps individuals process and resolve difficult memories and emotional experiences quickly and effectively. ART uses eye movement techniques and guided visualization to reframe distressing memories and replace them with more positive images.
SOMATIC THERAPY
Somatic therapy is a holistic approach to healing that focuses on the mind-body connection. It recognizes that trauma, stress and emotional pain are often stored in the body, not just the mind. By integrating talk therapy with body-based techniques like breathwork, movement and mindfulness, somatic therapy helps release stored tension, improve emotional regulation and promote well-being.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (dbt)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, skills-based treatment that blends behavioural change strategies with an emphasis on mindfulness and acceptance. DBT focuses on helping people accept the reality of their lives and their behaviours, as well as helping them learn to change their lives, including their unhelpful behaviours.
FAMILY THERAPY
Family therapy is designed to improve communication, resolve conflicts and strengthen family relationships. It can be helpful when families feel overwhelmed, stuck in negative patterns, or are dealing with life changes such as illness, mental health challenges, substance use, unemployment, moving, divorce, trauma, sibling rivalry, ageing or grief.

Is virtual therapy legit?
Yes. 100%.
We’re a legitimate therapy clinic with two physical locations in New Brunswick, and every therapist on our team is fully trained, licensed, and experienced. Whether in-person or online, you’re getting the same quality of care.
The only difference? You get to show up in your slippers.
Who is virtual therapy for?
Our clients are students, parents, professionals, caregivers and rural residents who want support that fits their lives. With virtual therapy, you get:
Fast access (often same-week appointments)
More flexibility for your schedule and location
Comfort and privacy from home — no commute, no waiting rooms
The same quality of care as in-person therapy
You don’t need to come to us — we come to you.
Why choose virtual therapy?
Online counselling can be a great fit for:
Rural clients with limited local options
Busy professionals or parents who can’t easily make time to drive to an office
People with anxiety, accessibility concerns, or health conditions
Students who move between cities but want to stay with one therapist
Anyone who prefers privacy, comfort, and convenience
How much does online therapy cost?
Individual Therapy sessions with a registered social worker (RSW) or licensed counselling therapist (LCT) are $150 for 50 minutes. Couples, family & specialty virtual sessions, such as EMDR and ART, are $160.
Is online therapy covered by insurance?
Our counselling fees are not covered by Medicare but are covered by many extended health insurance plans, similarly to in-person therapy.
Our clinic has therapists who are either registered social workers (RSW) or Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT).
You must check your specific plan for what you have coverage for, as coverage is different for each policy. Verify that your plan covers counselling/therapy with a MSW, RSW or LCT. Your insurance may state you have coverage for clinical counsellor or psychotherapist, which would cover LCT or social worker.
We also offer direct billing with many different insurance companies, which allows you to keep more money in your pocket. We can direct bill Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs (VAC), Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Canada Life, Claim Secure, Chamber of Commerce, Work Safe, NIHB, Department of Social Development, and more provided your plan is set up for direct billing. You are still responsible for any co-pay amounts at the time of service.
You Deserve a Therapist Who Gets You
We’ve learned that therapy works best when you feel confident in your therapist and the direction you’re going. That’s why our approach starts with clarity and continues with care.
What You Can Expect:
Leadership: You’ll have someone who knows the way forward. We’ll help you set realistic goals and map out a plan, so therapy feels less overwhelming and more empowering.
Relationship: We work hard to earn your trust. Your therapist will meet you with warmth, consistency and a genuine commitment to your growth, not judgment.
Creativity: We’ll help you uncover new tools and strategies that work for you. Whether you're navigating anxiety, trauma, burnout, ADHD, relationship stress or something else, we’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward.
